SpicyMama Joins the Festivities at Sakhi Onam 2025 with a Live Food Demo

On Sunday, 14 September 2025, SpicyMama had the pleasure of being part of the Sakhi Onam celebrations, hosted by the Malayalee Association. This festive event brought together the Indian community for a vibrant day filled with cultural performances, traditional food, and the joyous spirit of Onam. It was the perfect occasion for SpicyMama to share the love of cooking with a live food demonstration featuring our Kapitan Curry Paste, alongside the natural goodness of Coco Story products.
Cooking Together with the Community
Food has always been a powerful way to connect people, and this demo was no exception. Guests gathered around as we demonstrated how quickly and straightforward it is to prepare a delicious curry at home without compromising on flavour or authenticity.
For the demo, we cooked a Classic Kapitan Chicken Curry using SpicyMama Kapitan Curry Paste and premium Coco Story Extra Virgin Coconut Oil and Coconut Milk. The recipe was straightforward yet full of flavour, a testament to the joy of cooking with our products:
- Start with 1kg of raw chicken pieces, cleaned and ready to cook.
- Heat the Virgin Coconut Oil in a pot, then stir-fry the chicken until lightly browned.
- Open a pack of SpicyMama Kapitan Curry Paste and add it directly into the pot, coating the chicken evenly.
- Add 200ml of water, stirring to create a rich base.
- Pour in Coco Story Coconut Milk (17% Fat, 400ml), pure and natural, with no stabilisers. We used a bundle of three cans, ensuring the curry was creamy and aromatic.
- Let it simmer until the chicken is fully cooked and the flavours have melded beautifully.
The aroma quickly filled the hall, drawing curious smiles and hungry eyes. Within minutes, we had a pot of vibrant, fragrant curry, ready to serve and enjoy. Many attendees were delighted to see how easy it was to recreate an authentic dish at home using SpicyMama’s paste and Coco Story’s high-quality coconut products.
Why Kapitan Curry?
Kapitan Curry holds a special place in Southeast Asian cuisine. Known for its rich, fragrant blend of spices, it strikes the perfect balance between savoury depth and coconut creaminess. By using SpicyMama Kapitan Curry Paste, home cooks can enjoy this heritage dish without spending hours grinding spices or preparing complex bases. All it takes is one packet, some fresh ingredients, and a little time at the stove, making cooking a stress-free experience.
The demo showcased just that, making traditional flavours accessible, quick, and convenient for families, busy professionals, and anyone who loves a hearty curry. If you’re looking to recreate this dish at home, you can easily Buy Dry Curry Paste online and have authentic flavours ready in minutes.
Featuring a Healthy Snack: Hawaiian Coconut Cookies
Alongside the demo, SpicyMama also introduced a brand-new snack: Hawaiian Coconut Cookies. These crunchy, lightly sweetened cookies are made with real coconut and designed to be a healthier option for snacking. Many guests at the event had the chance to sample them, and they were delighted by the tropical taste and wholesome texture.
The cookies made a perfect complement to the curry demo, showing how coconut, in both savoury and sweet forms, can bring joy to any table.
Celebrating Culture Through Food
The Sakhi Onam event was more than just a gathering; it was a celebration of culture, tradition, and togetherness. Onam is a festival that symbolises unity, abundance, and community spirit, and it was an honour for SpicyMama to contribute to this joyous occasion.
By partnering with Coco Story, we were able to showcase how natural coconut products elevate everyday cooking. The audience saw firsthand that with just a few quality ingredients, anyone can create restaurant-worthy dishes at home.
A Day to Remember
For SpicyMama, the highlight of the day was engaging with the community, answering questions, sharing tips, and watching guests’ faces light up when they tasted the curry. Many were pleasantly surprised at how effortless the cooking process was. Parents noted that it would be an excellent solution for weeknight dinners, while others were inspired to try Kapitan Curry for the first time.
The feedback for the Hawaiian Coconut Cookies was equally encouraging. People loved having a snack that was both tasty and healthier, with the natural goodness of coconut shining through.
Events like Sakhi Onam remind us why SpicyMama was created: to bring bold, creative flavours into people’s lives while keeping cooking easy and enjoyable.
